Palani Arulmigu Bala Dhandayuthapani Temple

PalaniMurugan Temple is one of the widely knownAnd esteemed Temples of Tamil Nadu. It is also one among the six prominent Temples of Lord Muruga which are known as ‘ARU PADAI VEEDU’. This temple is situated in Dindigul District. According to The Ancient scriptures, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi have termed their son Lord Muruga as ‘GnanaPazham Nee’ Citing His heights of divine wisdom. The phrase ‘Pazham Nee’ had later formed as ‘Palani’ in Colloquial language terms. This temple is located on Top of the Palanihill.

Temple History:

Palani Temple is The Third Among The Six Prominent Temples of Lord Muruga. The history of The Temple Travels Back Beyond 2000 Years. The Mail idol of Lord Muruga is Made of Nine High Power Toxins.

 The Verses of The Sacred Scripture Refer to The AuthenticCause of The Formation of This temple. Once, Vedic Sage Narada brought a divine fruit Kailash and gave it to Lord Shiva. Goddess Parvathi expressed Her wish that the fruit is given to Her children Lord Ganesha and Lord Muruga. Lord Shiva felt that the sanctity of the fruit will decline if the Fruit is Cut into two and hence, He suggested Lord Ganesha and Lord Muruga to partake in a divine contest.

  Lord Shiva proclaimed that they should come around the world and whoever comes first is Eligible to take the sacred Fruit. While Lord Muruga Took off on His peacock, Lord Ganesha Declared That His Parents are His World and Came Around Them to Attain the Sacred Fruit.

As a Result of This incident, Exasperated Lord Muruga, Left His parents and Vested inPalanihills. Since then, Palani Has Turned into a divine Place of worship.

The Uniqueness of the Idol:

   The idol For Worship of This Temple Was Sculptured By Siddha Bogan using Nine High Power Toxins That is Said to Comprise Divine and Supernatural powers. The divine idol is A Combination of Nine High Power Toxins Which is known As Nava Baashaanam’ in Tamil. The idol Contains Mark of Cells Equivalent To That of The Cells on a Fish. The Ancient Custom Followed Till Date is That Every Night, The idol is Covered by Wet Sendal and Soon After The Viswaroopa Darisanam – The First Worship in The Following Morning – The Sandal Which Turns Dry, is Distributed in a Chip Form To The Devotees. This is Considered And Observed as a Great Medicine That Cures The illness of Various kinds.

The Cause For The Name of The idol – Dhandayuthapani

Sage Agasthiya Ordered Idumba, the Raakshasa (Demon) To Carry Two Mountains Called Shakthi Giri and Shiva Giri to South Podigai Line of Mountains. Since He Could Not Bear The Weight of The Two Mountains At a Time, He Placed The Two Mountains Down Adjacent To Palani Hills. Observing all This, Lord Muruga Climbed Upon Sakthi Giri. Idumba, The Demon Asked Lord Muruga To Get Down From The Hill. Since Lord Muruga Didn’t Heed To His Command, Idumba Got Wild And Dared To Oppose The Lord. Just a Divine Look From The Lord Made Idumba To Turn Into One of His Forces. Since Lord Muruga Was Holding a Celestial Pole with Him, His Name Since Then is known as Dhandayuthapani.

The Exceptionality of the Temple:

 This is the temple where the divine And Superstitious Practices Like Piercing of Cheeks, Tongue And Other Parts of The Body With Sharp Needle, The Carrying of Kavadi – A Bow Like Framework Made of Bamboo And Other Wooden Sticks. Then The Practice Spread To Various Other Temples in Tamil Nadu as a Divine and Superstitious Form of Culture and Tradition.

 People of Various Walks of Life Throng This Temple in Ardent Faith That Lord Muruga is Ever Present To Bless Them T0o Live With Happiness And Prosperity Forever.
