The Temple has references in Epics and Puranas. Srimad Bhagavatha says that Balarama visited this Temple, bathed in Padmatheertham and made several offerings. Nammalwar, 9th century poet and one among the 12 Vaishnavite saints of the Alvar tradition, has composed ten hymns in praise of Lord Padmanabha. On the 950th year of Kali Yuga a reinstallation of the idol was done. In the 960th Kali year King Kotha Marthandan built the Abhisravana Mandapam.

It was in the year 1729 that the great ruler Marthanda Varma became the king of Travancore. He took the steps to renovate the Temple. In 1730 the idol was again moved to ‘Balalaya’ prior to the renovation and reconstruction of the sanctum sanctorum. It took two years for completion. The old wooden idol was replaced by the one that we see today. Made of highly complex amalgam known as Katusarkarayogam, it contains 12008 Salagrams within it. Most of what is seen today within the walls of the temple were constructed. It is recorded that 4000 sculptors, 6000 labourers and 100 elephants worked for a period of 6 months to finish the construction of the sreebalippura (the oblong corridor). This magnificent rectangular corridor built of solid stones protects the Deities during seeveli on rainy days. The gopuram for which the foundation had been laid in 1566, was built during this period. Similarly the flag-staff in front of the main shrine was also erected at this time. Teak wood of required size was brought from the forest for this purpose and transported to the Temple in such a way that no part of the wood touched the ground. The pole was then covered completely with gold sheets. The renovation of the Temple tank, the Padmatheertham, including the flight steps and its completion in the form we see it today was also undertaken during this great ruler’s time.

Fifth Makaram 925ME, 19th or 20th January 1750AD, stood witness to the act of a sublime dedication and the ultimate offering possible for a crowned head – the Thrippadi Danam. After the completion of certain religious ceremonies Maharaja Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma arrived in the Temple along with the male family members, his trusted Diwan and other officials. In presence of the Swamiyar, members of the Yogam and Brahmins the Maharaja submitted to Sree Padmanabha Prajapati, his entire State of Travancore along with his total right on it thereof by placing the Crown, the royal umbrella, the twin white Chauries (fans), the Manikandha – which were all symbols of royalty, along with some thulasi leaves on the Mandapam. Last but most significant, he placed his famous sword (the unquestioned insignia of sovereign authority which the King valued the most and which had lashed its unleashed velour in countless battle fields) in the steps of the Ottakkal Mandapam. Even before this, that the male members of the royal family, at the age of one, ware laid on the Ottakkal mandapam and surrendered to Sree Padmanabhaswamy as His own, gaining the supreme title ‘Sree Padmanabha Dasa’. In 1758, during the reign of Sree Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma, the fabulous Kulasekhara Mandapam was build. It is a marvelous and fantastic architectural work on stone. It is also known as Aayiramkal Mandapam and Sapthaswara Mandapam. It is supported by 28 balustrades of pillars. The pillars on the four corners can produce musical notes when taped. In 1820 a very big mural mirroring the Ananthasayanam, which is termed as the biggest in the temple murals of Kerala, was drawn during the period of Rani Goury Parvathi Bayi.

Among the rulers of the erstwhile Travancore Maharaja Sree Chithira Thirunal Rama Varma ranks as one among the most illustrious royal personalities, who ruled in his dual capacity as Dasa and Ruler. He ruled as a Sage among Kings. The Kshethra Praveshan Vilambram or the Temple Entry Proclamation was in 1936 which was the epoch-making event of the Maharaja’s religious and political life. This Proclamation, issued on the eve of his twenty forth birthday, has been considered by evaluators as the most socially progressive and religiously liberal ordinance enacted in India. It was a revolutionary and courageous action initiated for the first time in the country towards the eradication of untouchability. The rest of India followed his footsteps.

Both the Thrippadi Danam and the Kshethrapraveshana Vilambaram made history and stand out by themselves as lasting tributes to the vastness of heart and sublimity of conception of those who visualized them.

 In 1991, after the demise of Sree Padmanabha Dasa Chithira Thirunal Rama Varma, Sree Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma assumed charge of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. In compliance with the sanction already accorded by Sree Chithira Thirunal, Sree Uthradam Thirunal conducted the Kodi Archana in the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. In 1992, Maharaja Sree Chithira Thirunal’s personal worship idols were installed inside the Temple premises.

Sculptures :

 The diety can be seen through three doors. The first one shows the face of Lord, the Sivalingam and the hand of Lord beneath it. Second door opens to the lotus emerging from the navel of Lord with Lord Bramha seated on it. On the side of Lord Sreedevi seated and Divakaramuni on the Kattusarkara ( it is an ayurvedic mix to keep the diety clean). The view from third door is Lord’s feet, Bhoodevi sitting beside it and Kaudanya muni on Kattusarkara.

Last Chamber of Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple:

This secret door of the temple holds much secret knowledge. The only hunch is that door can be only opened by an enchanted sound wave which was long lost in time. The last door of Padmanabha Swami temple is potraited with two cobras it has no nuts, no locks, no latches and nothing. It is believed that the last door is fixed with NAGA BANDANAM or NAGA PASAM. It was fixed by the “Sidha sadhus” at the time of Marthandavarma. The door can only opened by highly scholared Sidha purushas by chanting Garuda mantra. According to the legend and the famous astrologers from around the world are claiming that if anyone tries to open it other than by the legendary method, destruction would fall upon humanity. The biggest problem of all is that at present there doesn’t exist such a SIDHA PURUSH who can open the LAST DOOR with the Garuda mantra.

The main shrine represents Aananda Shayanam. Vishnu reclining on a five hood serpent who is named as Anandan whose hoods are facing inwards. In the shrine Lord’s right hand is placed over a Sivalingam ; a representation of Lord Siva. By his either side two of his consorts Sridevi; godess of prosperity and Bhoodevi; godess of earth . The most critical part of the shrine is where a lotus emanated from the navel of Lord on which the Lord Bhrama resides. The deity is made up of 12000 saligrams which were collected from the banks of Gandagi river and the saligrams had undergone certain rituals in the Pashupathinath temple in north west of Kaadmandu.  The deity rest on the platform in the front of the tower of Santum sacturm which were carved from a single stone and is known as “Ottakal mandapam”. The stone for the Ottakal mandapam was cut out from Thirumala.

The Temple of Sri Padmanabha Swami had its dramatic turn with in this one and half year after finding the one of the greatest treasure in it’s kallaras. As a matter of fact, the findings of the treasure have neither affected the rituals nor the timings. They are same as before. The only visible change in that case is the security provided by the Kerala Government for the protection of the treasure. High level security system is being provided; metal detector in the four gateways. All the gates of the temple are guarded by armed commandos and 100meter around the temple has been declared as the security zone and moreover that several parts of the temple are prohibited from visiting.

 கன்னியாகுமரி மாவட்டத்தின் தலைநகராக விளங்குவது நாகர்கோவில். அங்குள்ள நாகராஜா திருக்கோவில். நாகதோஷங்களை பூரணமாக நீக்கும் வல்லமை பெற்ற திருத்தலமாக இந்த ஆலயத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கும் நாகராஜரின் பெயரிலேயே, இந்த ஊர் ‘நாகர்கோவில்’ என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. நாகர் வழிபாட்டிற்கு என்று தனியாக அமைந்தக் கோவில் இதுவேயாகும். ஆனால் நாகருக்கென்றே தனிக்கோவில், அதாவது நாகர் மூலவராக வீற்றிருக்கும் ஆலயம் நாகராஜா கோவில் ஆகும்.

நாகருக்கென்றே தனிக்கோவில்:

 ஆதிகாலத்தில் இந்த பகுதி வயல்கள் சூழ்ந்ததாக இருந்துள்ளது. வயலில் அரிவாளை வைத்து நெற்கதிர்களை அறுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்த ஒரு பெண், நெற்கதிரை அறுக்கும்போது, திடீரென ரத்தம் வந்தது. இதைக் கண்டு பயந்து போன அந்தப்பெண் அருகில் இருந்தவர்களிடம் சொல்ல, அவர்கள் ரத்தம் வந்த இடத்தைப் பார்த்தபோது, அங்கே பாறையொன்றில் ஐந்து தலையுடன் கூடிய நாகர் உருவம் இருந்தது.

நாகர் சிலைக்கு பாலாபிஷேகம்:

 அந்த நாகர் சிலையின் மேற்பகுதியில் இருந்துதான் ரத்தம் வந்து கொண்டிருந்தது. பின்பு அந்த நாகர் சிலைக்கு பாலாபிஷேகம் செய்து அந்தப் பகுதி மக்கள் அனைவரும் வழிபட்டனர். இதையடுத்து ரத்தம் வருவது நின்றது. எனவே அந்தப் பகுதி மக்கள், தினமும் அந்த சிலைக்கு பால் அபிஷேகம் செய்து வழிபடத் தொடங்கினர். இதனால் அந்த மக்களின் வாழ்க்கையில் துன்பங்கள் அகன்று, வசந்தம் வீச ஆரம்பித்தது.

ஆண் நாகமும், பெண் நாகமும்:

 ஒரு முறை சரும நோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட களக்காடு பகுதியை ஆண்டுவந்த மன்னன் மார்த்தாண்டநாகதோஷம் போக்கும் நாகராஜர் வர்மா, நாகராஜா கோவிலுக்கு வந்தார். அவர் நாகராஜருக்கு பால் அபிஷேகம் செய்து வழிபட்டு நோய் நீங்கப் பெற்றார். இதனால் மகிழ்ந்த மன்னன், அவ்விடத்திலேயே நாகராஜாவுக்கு ஆலயம் எழுப்பினார். ஆனால் கருவறை மட்டும் நாகங்கள் வசிப்பதற்கேற்ப, ஓலைக் கூரையாலேயே வேயப்பட்டது. இந்தக் கோவிலை நாகங்களே பாதுகாக்கின்றன. கருவறையில் நாகராஜர் ஐந்து தலைகளுடன் சுயம்புவாக காட்சி தருகிறார். இத்தலத்தில் தர்னேந்திரன் என்ற ஆண் நாகமும், பத்மாவதி என்ற பெண் நாகமும் துவார பாலகர்களாக உள்ளனர்.

மண் பிரசாதம்:

 இத்தல மூலவர் நாகராஜாவின் எதிரில் உள்ள தூணில் நாகக்கன்னி சிற்பம் இருக்கிறது. கருவறையில் நாகராஜா இருக்கும் இடம் மணல் திட்டாக உள்ளது. மேலும் வயல் இருந்த இடம் என்பதால் எப்போதும் இவ்விடத்தில் நீர் ஊறிக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறது. இது இன்றும் காணக் கூடிய ஒரு அதிசய நிகழ்வாகும். இந்த நீருடன் சேர்ந்த மணலையே, கோவில் பிரசாதமாக பக்தர்களுக்கு வழங்கு கிறார்கள். இந்த மணலானது ஆடி மாதம் முதல் மார்கழி மாதம் வரை கருப்பு நிறத்திலும், தை மாதம் முதல் ஆனி மாதம் வரை வெள்ளை நிறத்திலும் மாறிக் கொண்டே இருப்பது அதிசயிக்கத்தக்க ஒன்றாகும். நாகராஜர் சன்னிதிக்கு வலது புறம் காசி விஸ்வநாதர், அனந்த கிருஷ்ணன் மற்றும் கன்னி மூல கணபதி சன்னிதிகள் அமைந்துள்ளன. தினமும் நாகராஜருக்கு பூஜைகள் நடைபெற்று முடிந்த பின்னர்தான், இவர்களுக்கு பூஜைகள் நடைபெறும். அர்த்த ஜாம பூஜையில் மட்டும் அனந்த கிருஷ்ணருக்கு முதல் பூஜை நடைபெறுகிறது. கோவில் வெளி வளாகத்தில் துர்க்கை சன்னிதி, பாலமுருகன் சன்னிதி, திறந்தவெளியில் குழலூதும் கண்ணன் சன்னிதி முதலியவை உள்ளன. மேலும் காவல் தெய்வங்களான சாஸ்தாவும், நாகமணி பூதத்தான் சன்னிதியும் ஆலய வளாகத்திற்குள்ளேயே இருக்கிறது.

தீர்த்த துர்க்கை:

 இந்த தலத்தில் உள்ள துர்க்கை சிலை, இங்குள்ள நாக தீர்த்தத்தில் கிடைத்தது. எனவே அன்னையை ‘தீர்த்த துர்க்கை’ என்று அழைக்கிறார்கள். துர்க்கை அம்மன் கிடைத்த நாக தீர்த்தத்தில் செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை அன்று ராகு காலத்தில் நீராடி பால் அபிஷேகம் செய்து, நெய் தீபம் மற்றும் எலுமிச்சைப் பழ தீபம் ஏற்றி வழிபட்டால் நாக தோஷங்கள் உடனே அகலும் என்பது பக்தர்களின் நம்பிக்கையாகும். ‘ஓடவள்ளி’ என்ற கொடியே இத்தல விருட்சமாகும். ஆலயத்தின் வெளிப்பிரகாரத்தில் நாக உருவம் கொண்ட நாகலிங்க மரம் உள்ளது. ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமைகளில் ராகு காலத்தில் இவ்வாலயத்தின் முன்புள்ள அரச மரங்களின் கீழ் பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள நாகர் சிலைகளுக்கு பக்தர்கள் தங்கள் கையாலேயே மஞ்சள் பொடி தூவி, பால் அபிஷேகம் செய்யலாம்.

மது புராணங்களும், வேதங்களும் கைலாய மலையை சிவனின் வாஸ்த தலமாக சொல்கிறது. அதே போல திருமாலின் அம்சமாக திருமலை கருதப்படுகிறது. திருவண்ணாமலையும் அங்குள்ள மண்ணும் கல்லும் கூட சிவலிங்கமாக மதிக்கப்படுகிறது. ஒரு வைணவ பெரியவர் கால்களால் மிதிக்காமல் முழங்காலிட்டே திருமலை ஏறியுள்ளார். காரைக்கால் அம்மையாரும் தலையால் ஊர்ந்தே கைலாச மலையை அடைந்துள்ளார். திருநாவுக்கரசரும் திருவண்ணாமலையை கால்களால் தீண்டுவது பெரும் பாவம் என அரகண்டநல்லூர் அதுல்யநாதேஸ்வர் ஆலயத்திலிருந்தே அண்ணா மலையை தரிசித்துள்ளார். அன்னை ஆதிபராசக்திக்கு “விந்தியா சல நிவாசினி” என்று ஒரு பெயர் உள்ளது. அதன் பொருள் என்னவென்றால் விந்திய மலையில் வாசம் புரிபவள் என்பதாகும். உச்சி பிள்ளையாரும், ஐயப்பனும் மலையிலேயே இருக்கிறார்கள். ” குன்று இருக்கும் இடமெல்லாம் குமரன் இருக்கும் இடம்” என வழி படப்படுகிறது. பராம்பரியமான சந்நியாசகளின் ஒரு பிரிவினருக்கு கிரி என்ற மலை பெயரே சந்நியாச நாமமாக கொடுக்கப்படுகிறது. இவை எல்லாம் இந்து பராம்பயத்தில் மலைக்கு கொடுக்கும் முக்கியத்துவமாகும். ஆகவே மலைகளுக்கும் ஆன்மீக உணர்விற்கும் மிக நெருக்கமான உறவு இருந்துவருகிறது.

அதற்கு காரணம் என்ன ?

மலைகள் மனிதனால் அதிகமாக சஞ்சாரம் செய்யாத பகுதி ஆகும். மனித மனதிலிருந்து உற்பத்தியாகும் பல வகையான எண்ண அலை கள் மலை பகுதிகளில் குறைவாகவே இருக்கும். இதனால் தவம் புரிவதற்கும், தியானம் செய்வதற்கும் மலைகள் பேருதவி புரிகின்றன. இதனாலேயே கடவுள் அம்சமாக மலை கருதப்படுகிறது.

 Pain radiating from the lower back in lower limb up to the toe is known as sciatica. In this condition a nerve called sciatic is effected and pain occurs in the same nerve- this is the reason, why it is known as sciatica. So to be precise- pain effecting the sciatic nerve is known as Sciatica. Sciatic pain can make life miserable. Walking, standing, bending over, driving a car, working at a computer, catching up on household chores, sneezing or coughing, and many other activities of daily living can cause sudden and intense pain. Patients who suffer sciatica, especially of a more acute nature, find the symptoms disrupt many aspects of their life.

Common symptoms of sciatica include:sciatica-treatment

1. Pain in the back side of leg which will worsen once you sit or stretch the nerve by any movement
2. Pain might be in form of tingling sensation, burning anywhere in the supply region of the sciatic nerve
3. You might feel weakness in your leg
4. A sensation of numbness or just difficulty in making any movement
5. A cutting/tearing pain on rear side
6. A pain which can make it difficult to walk or stand for moments

Causes of Sciatica:

 Sciatic nerve originates from Lumbo-Sacral vertebrae. Nerves coming out of these vertebrae unite together and make a nerve- Sciatic. This nerve travels to the foot all the way so from lower back up to any place there might be some problem. Here are main causes of the sciatica.

Slipped Disc:

 When due to problems with the muscles of the spine, a disc bulges to a side and starts pressing the nerve root, involved with sciatic nerve, this irritates the nerve and sensation of – pain/numbness/tingling starts occurring in the whole nerve. This kind of sciatic pain can only be relieved when the pressure on the nerve root is removed by proper adjustment of the disc.

Lumbar Spinal Stenosis:

  This is the condition of hardening of the spinal canal- this is a condition which follows the lumbar spondyolitis ion general.

Degenerative Disc Disorder:

 This is the condition where inter-vertebral disc starts degenerating due to some pathology and this starts effecting the nerve roots and pain starts traveling down to the leg.

Piriformis Syndrome:

  This is a controversial cause of the sciatica. When there is no definitive cause for the problem- all the discs are in their place, there is not problem with the spine- this is considered that pain is due to the stiffness in the piriformis muscle. This might be a confusing diagnosis but certainly in practice we have seen many patients came with severe pain but there was nothing wrong with their spine or vertebral column.

Pregnancy:

 The pull by baby-bump can stretch the nerve and can cause the sciatica problem to you, which will go away in most of the cases after pregnancy.

Spinal tumors and spinal infections

  Although very rare, tumors and infections can compress the sciatic nerve.

Spondylolisthesis

  If a vertebra slips forward over the vertebra below it, it’s called Spondylolisthesis. This slip can pinch the nerve root and cause sciatica.

Trauma

 Can develop sciatica because of direct nerve compression from an outside force. For example, you could be injured in a car accident, resulting in a pinched nerve in your low back.

Ayurveda is specialized in treating Sciatica with highest treatment success rate. It offers excellent Panchakarma therapies along with internal medicines for treating Sciatica.

Ayurveda described sciatica as Gridhrasi (Gridhra means Eagle), as the gait of the affected person resembles that of an eagle’s walk and the inflamed nerve appears like eagle’s beak.

Ayurveda categorized Sciatica as one of diseases caused by vitiation Vata (one of the principle dosha in the body, responsible for the movement and functionality of the body). Sometimes even kapha (dosha responsible for lubrication and bodily fluids) vitiation along with Vata (vata kaphaj) also causes sciatica.

Treatment in Ayurveda is aimed at restoring the equilibrium through correction of the underlying functional in-equilibrium. Ayurvedic treatments for Sciatica concentrate on bringing back the aggravated vata or vata kapha to the state of equilibrium and thereby to the state of health.

Sri Seshadri Swamigal was born on January 22, 1870 in a small village near Kanchipuram in South India in the renowned family of Kamakoti. He studied Vedas (Hindu religious literature) at a very young age. An incident in his childhood reveals the greatness of his power when his mother took him to a temple fair and he touched an idol from a seller who had all the idols sold out like hotcakes, which were not getting sold out earlier.

This gave him the name “Thanga Kai” (golden hand). His parents died when he was still in his teens. Just before his mother died, she asked him to sing ‘Ambe Sive’ (a composition of his grandfather’s) and then, in the moments before she died, she called out, “Arunachala! Arunachala! Arunachala!” The word Arunachala struck a deep cord in Sheshadri Swamigal. Though he had never been to Arunachala, he sketched the five peaks of the holy hill on a board and from then on worshipped Arunachala every day.

Having no worldly attachments, he became a sanyasi (ascetic) and came to Tiruvannamalai in 1889 at age nineteen and remained there for forty years until he died in the year 1929.

When Ramana Maharshi came to Tiruvannamalai seven years after Seshadri Swamigal’s arrival, Seshadri was immediately aware of the young swami’s state of Self-abidance and he felt a motherly love for him. Sri Ramana spent his time then immersed in the bliss of the Self in the thousand-pillared hall in the front portion of the Arunachaleswara Temple. Urchins, not understanding his state, pelted him with stones. Sri Seshadri tried to protect the young swami who seemed quite unaware of his body and surroundings, but the urchins continued their harassment. To avoid this unwanted attention, Sri Ramana moved into the Patalalingam, an underground vault in the temple. He remained there, in deep meditation, for many day, oblivious to the ants, vermin, and mosquitoes who were feasting on him. Sri Seshadri found him there and asked his (Sri Seshadri’s) devotee Venkatachala Mudaliar to lift “his child” out. He cleansed Ramana’s blood-oozing wounds and revealed Ramana as a [saint] to the world.

Seshadri Swamigal’s behavior was quite eccentric and unpredictable. He acted like a mad man at times to fend off worldly people, but to earnest seekers he was extremely gentle and considerate.

Sri Seshadri blessed his devotees and helped cure their illnesses with his wonderful touch. While roaming the streets of Tiruvannamalai, he would sometimes enter a shop and dump the cash from a cashbox or throw the articles from the shops. The shops he entered used to do good business on that day and so shop keepers would eagerly await his arrival. To this day, the shops in Tiruvannamalai have his photos as a symbol of good luck and prosperity.

Sri Seshadri was a great worshipper of Shakti.

Sri Seshadri died in January 1929, at the age of 59. His body was not cremated but buried, as is the custom in the case of a saint. It is believed that Bhagavan Ramana Maharishi was present at the place silently observing the rituals till it was completed.

It is often quoted that the devotees called Sri Seshadri “Periya Seshadri” (elder Seshadri) and Sri Ramana Maharishi as “Chinna Seshadri” (younger Seshadri).

Chennai : Fascinated by his awesome share of knowledge, used to spend hours together at the ashram Those who came to him desperately seeking help, were never turned away – he would just say “Ask for what you want”, and then would bless them (like grant them) their wish Was very proud of his support and used to send many to him, and all used to be so content and rejuvenated with his smile. He was a very simple person.

One time there was my driver, who also happens to be a very close family friend and well wisher of ours – his son was suffering with a disease called Kawasaki – fever – followed by reduced immunity – followed by fingers of feet getting cut and falling off. The life was in danger, and all Sr. Drs. at a reputed hospital had given up hope……and we were asked to shift the child to the Govt. hospital…. The mother of the baby was hysterical, and me being a new mom then was scared stiff, and could not bear to see their pain, not unable to bear the shock that such things could happen to babies. I called up Siddar – weeping – asked him to save the life of the child. He told me ask the father/mother to call me. They did. He asked them to smash a coconut at the nearest Ganesh temple and uttered a few sentences, and said that child will live, his fingers will grow again, and he – the child – will be all brains.,we thanked him over the phone. Then the child was shifted to the Govt hospital. This happened in 2005, the child is still alive, and is a super brainy kid – with clear thoughts. (They were also interviewed by BBC and the parents mentioned their gratitude to the Divine, Siddar and the awesome mantra “Om Gilli Siva/Shiva”.

I used to be perplexed and during one of my visits to his ashram, told him, I am not leaving this time without learning the magic of granting boons.

“He smiled and said there is no magic. It is the simplest thing to do.
Just speak the truth.
Speak only the truth.
Then every word spoken by you becomes The Truth”

   நாமக்கல் மாவட்டம் கொல்லிமலை அவாரத்தில் உள்பே ளுக்குறிச்சியில் 2000 ஆண்டுகள் பழமை வாய்ந்த பழனி ஆண்டவர் கோவில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இங்கு இங்குள்ள முருகனை வணங்கினால் தோல் நோய், எலும்பு நோய், குழந்தை இல்லாத தம்பதிகளுக்கு குழந்தை பாக்கியம் கிடைக்கும் என்பது பக்தர்களின் தீராதநம்பிக்கை.

ஆண், பெண்ணாக முருகன்:

 மூலவர் பழனி ஆண்டவர் தணியாக வேடன் நின்ற கோலத்தில் காட்சி தருகிறார் மூலவரை நேருக்கு நேராக  வணங்கினால் வேடன் போலவும், வலதுபுறம் நின்று வணங்கினால் ஆண் வடிவமாகவும், இடதுபுறம் நின்று வணங்கினால் பெண்வடிவமாக காட்சி தருகிறார்.

போகர் பழனியில்:

  3 அரை அடி உயரம் கொண்ட சிலையை பார்த்து, போகர் பழனியில் நவபாசான முருகனை உருவாக்கினார். முருகன் கோவிலில் சேவல் சின்னம் கொடியில்தான் இருக்கும் ஆனால் இங்கு முருகன் சேவல் கையில் அடைத்து வைத்திருப்பது இங்கு அதிசியம்

வீரக் கோலத்தில் முருகன்:

 திருமுருகனுக்கு, இந்தத் திருமலையில் முதன்முதலில் கோயில் எழுப்பி பிரதிஷ்டை செய்தவர், கடை ஏழு வள்ளல்களில் ஒருவரான வேட்டுவ வேந்தனான கொல்லியாண்ட வல்வில் ஓரி ஆவார். இதனை மெய்ப்பிக்கும் விதத்தில், கூவைமலை பழனியாண்டவரை கைகூப்பி தொழுத வண்ணம் அவர் தன் மனைவி ராசாயியுடன் சிலையாகக் காணப்படுகிறார். மேலும், மூலவருக்கு குலத் தலைவர் என்பதால் உருமாலையை தலையில் கட்டி, கொல்லி மலைக்கே உரிய கொன்றை மலரைச் சூட்டி, இடக்கரத்தில் சேவலை அணைத்தும், வலக்கரத்தில் வஜ்ராயுதத்தைப் பற்றியும், இடுப்பில் பிச்சுவா கத்தியை வைத்துக் கொண்டும், கால் களில் வீரக்கழல் அணிந்தும் முருகன் இங்கே வீரக் கோலத்தில் திருக்காட்சியளிக்கின்றான்.

அருணகிரிநாதர், கிருபானந்த வாரியார்:

 இத்தலத்து முருகப் பெருமானை தரிசித்து ஒன்றுக்கு இரண்டாக இவர்மீது திருப்புகழ் பாடி தனது பித்தம் தெளிந்து சித்தம் நிறைந்துள்ளார். திருமுருக கிருபானந்த வாரியார் சுவாமிகளும் இந்த முருகனை தரிசித்து, ‘அழகா? எத்தலத்திலும் நான் தரிசித்திராத கோலத்தில் கையில் சேவலோடு என் ஆவலைத் தீர்த்த முருகனின் மனம் அழகா?’’ என்று வியந்து நின்று கண்ணீர்  வடித்துள்ளார். மலையழகா? மலைமகளின் மகன் அழகா? வள்ளி மணாளனின் இந்தத் தலம் அழகா? சித்தர்கள், மகான்கள், முனிவர்கள் அனைவரும் இந்த புள்ளி மயில்வாகனனை வணங்கி வழிபட்டு சித்திகள் பல கைவரப்பெற்று முக்தி அடைந்தனர். ஒற்றையாக, பழனியாண்டவர் மட்டுமே திருக்கோயில் கொண்டிருந்த நிலைமாறி இப்பகுதி முருக பக்தர்களின் முழு முயற்சியால் விநாயகர், சிவன், பார்வதி, பெருமாள், கிருஷ்ணர், சனி பகவான், நவகிரக சந்நதி, இடும்பன் சந்நதி என்று பல்வேறு தெய்வ சந்நதிகள் எழுப்பப்பட்டு கோயில் விஸ்தரிக்கப்பட்டது. இத்திருக்கோயிலுக்கு படிவழியாகவும், வாகனப்பாதை வழியாகவும் செல்லலாம். முருகனுக்கு உரிய திருநாட்கள் யாவற்றையும் ஆத்மார்த்தமாகக் கொண்டாடி வருகின்றனர். கிருத்திகை மாதம் வெகு சிறப்பாக வழிபாடுகள் நடத்தப்பட்டு சிறப்பிக்கப் பெறுகின்றது. மாதா மாதம் பௌர்ணமி பூஜை இரவு 12 மணிக்கு நடைபெறுகின்றது. கிரிவலப்பாதை அரை கி.மீ. தூரத்திற்கு கார்த்திகை தீபம் ஏற்றப்பட்டு வெகு விமர்சையாகக் கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வருகின்றது.

திருவிழாக்கள்:

 கார்த்திகை மாதம், கார்த்திகை நட்சத்திரத்திற்கு முதல் நாள் பரணி தீபம். மறுநாள் கார்த்திகை தீபம். கார்த்திகை முப்பது நாளும் தீபதானம் செய்ய வேண்டும். கோயில், மடம், வீடு, நாற்சந்து, வீதி முதலான இடங்களில் நிறைய தீபம் ஏற்ற வேண்டும் என சாஸ்திரம் கூறுகிறது. கார்த்திகை மாதத்தில், மாலை நேரத்தில் இந்த முருகன் கோபுர சிகர வாசற்படி, மண்டபம், மூலஸ்தானம் முதலிய இடங்களில் பக்தர்கள் விளக்கேற்றி வறுமை நோய் அகன்று செல்வமும், உடல்நலமும், அமையப் பெறுகிறார்கள்.

 திருச்சி மாவட்டம் திருவெறும்பூ என்னும் இடத்தில் 2000 ஆண்டுகள் பழமை வாய்ந்த சிவன் கோவில் 125 படிகளின் மீது ஏறி குன்றின் மேல் உள்ளது. இங்கு சிவபெருமான் நறுங்குழல் நாயகியுடன் எறும்பிஸ்வரர் என்ற பெயரில் அருள் பாலிக்கிறார். இவரை வணங்கினால் சோம்பல் நீங்கி சுறுசுறுப்பாக உழைக்கும் குணம் மேலோங்கும் என்பது பக்தர்களின் நம்பிக்கை. சிவனின் தேவாரப்பாடல் பெற்ற 274 சிவாலயங்களில் இது 70-வது தேவாரத்தலம் ஆகும். இது தேவாரப் பதிகம் பாடப் பெற்ற திருத்தலமாகும். மேலும் காவிரி தென்கரைத் தலங்களில் 7-வது தலமாகவும் திகழ்கிறது.

தேவர்கள் எறும்பாக உறுவாகி:

 தாரகாசுரன் என்ற அரக்கன், தேவர்களை மிகவும் கொடுமைப்படுத்தி வந்தான். இதனால் மிகவும் துன்பப்பட்டு வந்த தேவர்கள் அனைவரும் நாரத முனிவரிடம் சென்று, அசுரனின் கொடுமையில் இருந்து மீள்வதற்கு வழி சொல்லும்படி வேண்டி நின்றனர். அதற்கு நாரதர், திருச்சி அருகில் உள்ள இந்த ஆலயத்திற்கு வந்து சிவபெருமானை மனமுருகி பிரார்த்தனை செய்தால் உங்களின் துன்பங்கள் விலகும் என்று கூறினார். அதன்படி தேவர்கள் அனைவரும், தாரகாசுரன் கண்ணில் படாமல் இருக்க எறும்பாக உருமாறி, இத்தல இறைவனை வழிபட்டனர். திருமேனியை ஒரு எறும்புப் புற்றாக மாற்றினார்லிங்கத் திருமேனி மிகவும் வழுவழுப்பாக இருந்த காரணத்தால், எறும்புருவில் இருந்த தேவர்களால் அதில் ஏறிச் சென்று இறைவனை வழிபட முடியவில்லை. தேவர்களின் சிரமத்தைக் கண்டு மனம் இரங்கிய சிவபெருமான், தனது லிங்கத் திருமேனியை ஒரு எறும்புப் புற்றாக மாற்றினார். இதனால் எறும்புருவில் இருந்த தேவர்கள் அனைவரும் எளிதில் மேலேறிச்சென்று பூஜை செய்வதற்கு வசதியாக லிங்கத்திருமேனி சொரசொரப்பாக மாறியது. இதன் காரணமாக இத்தல இறைவன் எறும்பீஸ்வரர் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறார். எறும்புகளை சுறுசுறுப்புடன் வழிபடச் செய்து அவர்களுக்கு அருள் வழங்கினார் ஈசன் என்பதால், இந்தத் தலம் சுறுசுறுப்புக்குப் பேர் பெற்றது. சுவாமிக்கு பூஜை செய்து வேண்டிக் கொண்டால், சோம்பல் நீங்கி சுறுசுறுப்பாக உழைக்கும் குணம் மேலோங்கும். மேலும் துன்பங்கள் விலகும் என்பது பக்தர்களின் நம்பிக்கையாக உள்ளது.

நெய் வேத்திய பொருட்களை எடுத்து செல்லும் எறும்புகள்:

 கருவறை முற்றிலும் கற்களால் கட்டப்பட்டது. கோவிலின் நுழைவு வாசல் வடக்கு திசையில் இருக்கிறது. இரண்டு பிரகாரங்கள் உள்ளன. கருவறை நுழைவு வாசலின் இருபுறமும் விநாயகர், முருகப்பெருமான் ஆகியோரது உருவச் சிலைகள் அமைந்துள்ளன. சிவபெருமான் சன்னிதி கோஷ்ட தெய்வமாக சங்கரநாராயணர் காட்சியளிக்கிறார். ருத்ராட்சப் பந்தலின் கீழ் நடராஜர், காலில் சலங்கைக் கொலுசு அணிந்திருக்கும் கோலத்தில் காட்சி தருகிறார். இங்கே சிவபெருமான் சுயம்பு மூர்த்தியாக உள்ளார். லிங்கத்தின் இடப்புறம் சற்றே சாய்ந்திருக்க, மத்தியில் ஒரு பிளவு இருக்கிறது. இது இரண்டு லிங்கங்கள் இணைந்திருப்பது போன்ற தோற்றத்தை அளிக்கும். வலப்புறப் பகுதி சிவபெருமானின் அம்சம் என்றும், இடப்புறப் பகுதி அம்பாளின் அம்சம் என்றும் கூறப்படுகிறது. இந்த லிங்கத்துக்கு ‘சிவசக்தி லிங்கம்’ என்ற பெயரும் வழங்கப்படுகிறது. தினமும் சுவாமிக்கு பூஜை நடக்கும்போது, கருவறையில் எறும்புகள் வரிசையாகச் சென்று, நைவேத்தியப் பொருட்களை எடுத்துச் செல்வது அதிசய சம்பவமாக நடந்து வருகிறது. கருவறையில் சிவலிங்கம் புற்று வடிவில் மேடும், பள்ளமுமாக புற்றுமண் லிங்கம் போல் இருப்பதால், லிங்கத்துக்கு அபிஷேகம் கிடையாது. எண்ணெய்க் காப்பு மட்டுமே செய்யப்படுகிறது. எறும்புகள் ஊர, சிவபெருமானுக்குச் செய்யப்படும் பூஜையைக் காண்பது சிறப்பு இந்த நேரத்தில் சுவாமியை வழிபடுவது மிகவும் உகந்ததாகும்.

நறுமனம் வீசும் நாயகி:

 இத்தலத்தில் வீற்றிருந்து அம்பாள், ‘நறுங்குழல்நாயகி’ என்ற திருநாமத்துடன் தனிச் சன்னிதியில் தெற்கு நோக்கி காட்சியளிக்கிறார். நறுமணம் வீசும் கூந்தலுடன் இவர் திகழ்வதால் இப்பெயர் பெற்றதாக கூறப்படுகிறது. இத்தலத்தில் அம்பாளுக்கு ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் விதவிதமான அலங்காரங்கள் செய்யப்படுகிறது. அம்பாள் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் ஒவ்வொரு கோலத்தில் காட்சி தருகிறார். அம்பாளுக்கு முன்புறத்தில், ஆதி காலத்தில் வழிபடப்பட்ட அம்பாள் விக்ரகம் ஒன்றும் உள்ளது.

பிரகாரத்தில்:

 ஆலயப் பிரகாரத்தில் சொர்ண காலபைரவர் சன்னிதி அமைந்துள்ளது. உக்கிரமாக இருக்கும் இவரின் சன்னிதிக்கு நேராக கஜலட்சுமி வீற்றிருந்து அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். இவர்கள் இருவரையும் ஒரே நேரத்தில் வேண்டிக் கொண்டால் பயம் நீங்கும், ஐஸ்வர்யம் பெருகும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை. ஆலயத்தில் 4 தீர்த்தங்கள் உள்ளது. அவை பிரம்ம தீர்த்தம், பத்ம தீர்த்தம், மது தீர்த்தம், குமார தீர்த்தம் என்பவையாகும். ஈசனின் கருவறைக்கு பின்புறம் உள்ள காசி விஸ்வநாதர் சன்னிதியும், சண்முக சுப்பிரமணியர், வள்ளி- தெய்வானையுடன் வீற்றிருக்கும் தனிச் சன்னிதியில் உள்ளன. முருகப்பெருமானின் பீடத்துக்குக் கீழே அறுங்கோணச் சக்கர வடிவம் உள்ளது. இந்தச் சக்கரத்தையும் சுவாமியையும் தரிசித்து வழிபட்டுச் செல்வோரின் தோஷங்கள், மனக்குறைகள் யாவும் நீங்குவதாக நம்பிக்கை. தல விநாயகரின் திருப்பெயர் செல்வ விநாயகர் என்பதாகும். இக்கோவிலின் தலவிருச்சமாக வில்வமும், தீர்த்தமாக பிரம்ம தீர்த்தமும் விளங்குகிறது.

Guntur : Undavalli Caves are finest examples of ancient Indian Architecture also known as Vishwakaram Sthapathyashastra. The four storeyed caves carved out of a sandstone cliff are located in Undavalli Village in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh only 6 Kms from the city of Vijayawada and 22 Kms from Guntur.

There are many fine examples of ancient architecture and sculptures in the hills that surround Vijayawada but Undavalli caves can be considered the largest and the most outstanding example of ancient Indian architecture which could successfully handle this incredible engineering feat and create these four storey high rock-cut caves that had fantastic sculptures, columns and murals.

History: 

Built over several centuries and exhibiting different architectural styles and influences, the rock-cut caves appear like an ancient fort from far. But as you near you can see the distinct floors and the workmanship of skilled craftsmen living at different times in history.

From the 4th to the 6th Century AD, the caves are developed by the rulers of the Vishnukundina dynasty ruling over these parts during that period. Since the Vishnukundina kings were Buddhist, Undavalli Caves were firstly made into Buddhist temples and monasteries. There is evidence to this theory in the form of Buddhist statues which still exist in the caves. The caves carved by the Buddhist Kings are the first floor caves.

Between the 6th and 8th centuries AD Undavalli caves were linked to Jain kings Initially caves were shaped as a home for Jain ascetics. The first floor of the caves still shows Jain style vihara and some statues and sculpture of Thirthankaras. The Jain cave shows influences of Udayagiri and Khandgiri schools of architecture.

After this however the caves were developed by Hindu kings and most of the pieces of art that we see in the other three floors is associated with Hindu religion. The subsequent floors show different architectural styles such as earliest examples of Gupta architecture, while the second floor shows the influences of Chalukyan architecture On the second floor there is a magnificent 5 mtrs long statue of Lord Vishnu in a reclining posture that has been carved out of a single block of granite.

Structures and Findings :

Undavalli Caves has four floors; the first floor is larger than the second with each of the following floors receding successively from the façade which is 29 mtrs in width. The first floor has huge 10-12 square columns and 8-9 openings in between the columns. The floor plan and the and style of sculptures seen on the first floor show that this was a Buddhist Buddhist monastery as there are viharas and meditation cells but this seems to be incomplete. Behind these there are three temples for the Hindu Triumvirate; Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva in front of each of these is a hall with pillars. The murals and sculpture on the walls of the first floor show scenes from Hindu mythology and have been created in 7th and 8the Centuries AD and later.

The second floor has the most marvelous sculpture in this cave complex; it is a massive statue of Lord Vishnu as Padmanabha or reclining on the Shesha Naag with the a lotus or Padma from his Nabhi, that is five mtrs in length. Although this statue resembles the statue of the reclining Buddha seen in many Buddhist temples, it is a statue of Vishnu as is evident from the Adi-Shesha Naag that holds its thousand hoods like an umbrella over the head of Vishnu. There are many other sculptures and murals on this floor.

The third floor of the caves is also decorated with many sculptures depicting wild animals such as lions, elephants and nature.

  கர்நாடக மாநிலம் மங்களூரு அடுத்துள்ள உடுப்பியில் 2000 ஆண்டுகள் பழமை வாய்ந்த கிருஷ்ணர் கோவில் உள்ளது இத்தல கிருஷ்ணன் ருக்மணியால் பூஜிக்கப்பட்ட சாளக்கிராமத்லானவர் இவரை வணங்கினால் குழந்தைகளுக்கு கல்வி அறிவு பெருகும், குழந்தை பாக்கியம் கிடைக்கும் என்பது பக்தர்களின் தீராத நம்பிக்கை. இக்கோவிலில் கனகதாசர் என்ற மகானுக்காக கருவறையில் இருந்து ஜன்னல் வழியாக திரும்பி காட்சியலித்தார்.

நட்சத்திர தலைவன்:

 உடு – என்றால் நட்சத்திரம் பா.என்றால் தலைவன் உடுபா. என்பதே மருவி உடுப்பி ஆனாது சந்திரன் தனக்கு ஏற்ப்பட்ட தோசத்திற்காக 27 நட்சத்திரங்களுடன் இத்தல கிருஷ்ணனை வழிபட்டு சாபம் நீங்கப் பெற்றான். எனவே இங்குள்ள கிருஷ்ணன் நட்சத்திர தலைவனாகவும், கிரகங்களின் நாயகனாக கருதப்படுகிறார்.

எட்டு மடங்கள்:

 உடுப்பி கிருஷ்ணனுக்கு வழிபாடு செய்வதற்காக எட்டு சீடர்களைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து கணியூர் மடம், சோதே மடம், புதிகே மடம், அத்மார் மடம், பேஜாவர் மடம், பாலிமார் மடம், கிருஷ்ணாபுரம் மடம், சிரூர் மடம் என எட்டு மடங்களையும் நிர்மாணித்து ஒவ்வொரு மடமும் இரண்டு மாதங்கள் நிர்வகிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற நடைமுறையை மத்வர் ஏற்படுத்தினார். புதிய சுவாமி மடத்தின் பொறுப்பை ஏற்கும் விழா பர்யாய வைபவம் என்று கொண்டாடப்படுகின்றது. உடுப்பியில் மிகச் சிறப்பாகக் கொண்டாடப்படும் விழாவாக இது அமைகிறது. இவ்விழாவின் போது விறகுத்தேர் அமைக்கப்படுகின்றது. இத்தேர் விறகுதான் கோயில் சமையலுக்குப் பயன்படுகின்றது.

ஒன்பது துவரங்கள்:

 முன்பு கனகதாசர் என்ற மகான் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டிருந்த குலத்தில் பிறந்திருந்ததால் உடுப்பி கோவிலில் நுழைய அனுமதிக்கப்படவில்லை. அவர் தினமும் உடுப்பி கிருஷ்ணனின் கருவறைக்குப் பின்னால் நின்று ஏகதாரி வீணை எனும் ஒரு கம்பி மட்டும் கொண்ட வாத்தியக் கருவியை மீட்டி வழிபட்டுவந்தார். ஒருநாள் கருவறையின் பின்பக்கச் சுவரின் கற்கள் தாமாகவே விழுந்து உடுப்பி கிருஷ்ணரும் பின்புறச்சுவர் நோக்கித் திரும்பி கனகதாசருக்கு காட்சியளித்தார். கனகதாசர் கண்ணனை வழிபட வழிவகுத்த ஒன்பது துவாரங்கள் கொண்ட பலகணி கனகதண்டி என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. பக்தர்கள் அனைவரும் கனகதாசர் கிருஷ்ணரை தரிசித்த பலகணி வழியாகவே மூலவரை தரிசனம் செய்யும் வழக்கமும் இந்நிகழ்வுக்குப் பின்னர் ஏற்பட்டது.

அயோத்தியில் இருந்து கருடன்:

 வெள்ளியால் ஆன இந்த தூவாரத்தை நவகிரக தூவாரம் என்கின்றனர் இதில் கிருஷ்ணனின் 24 வகையான உருவங்கள் பெரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது இதன் முன்புள்ள மண்டபம் தீர்த்த மண்டபம் எனப்படுகிறது. இங்குதான் தினமும் இரவு சாமர பூஜை, மண்டல பூஜை நடக்கிறது. தீர்த்த மண்டபத்தில் உள்ள கருடன் அயோத்தியில் இருந்து வாதி ராஜா தீர்த்தா என்பவரால் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டது.

 Lumbar spondylosis is a degenerative condition which affects the lower spine. In a patient with lumbar spondylosis, the spine is compromised by a narrowing of the space between the vertebrae, causing a variety of health problems ranging from back pain to neurological issues. This condition is usually caused by old age, as the spine undergoes changes as people grow older, and many of these changes contribute to degeneration of the vertebrae. Spondylosis, which can appear in the cervical and thoracic vertebrae as well, is also known as spinal osteoarthritis. In a classic case of lumbar spondylosis, the space between discs in the lumbar spine becomes narrowed. As a result, the patient develops numbness, tingling, and pain which seem to radiate out from the area. These symptoms are the result of pressure on the nerves as they exit the spinal cord. If the spondylosis is allowed to progress, it can lead to a narrowing of the spinal canal, resulting in impingement of the spinal cord, which can cause poor bladder control, unsteady gait, and other severe neurological problems.

 Symptoms:

  Specific conditions that fall under the umbrella term of lumbo-sacral spondylosis can include herniated discs, bulging discs, bone spurs and osteoarthritis, all of which are spinal abnormalities that run the risk of protruding into the spinal canal and exerting pressure on spinal nerves. The sciatic nerve is often compressed at the meeting of the L5 and S1 vertebrae. Common symptoms of sciatic nerve compression include tingling, numbness, weakness and pain that can spread through the following areas:

 Lower back

 Tailbone

 Buttocks

 Hip joints

 Toes

 Back of thighs (hamstrings)

 Calves

 Feet

Diagnosis:

 Diagnosis of lumbar spondylosis consists of a physical examination, neurological examination (to assess sensation and motor function), imaging studies (such as x-rays, CT scan, or MRI). X-ray studies demonstrate much of the characteristic appearance of spondylosis narrowing of the intervebral disc space and the neural foramina (bony canals by which the spinal nerves exit the vertebral column). Also visible is the presence of osteoarthritis and the formation of osteophytes (small bone spurs) on areas of the vertebrae adjacent to the discs and in the area of the facet joints. Soft tissue injuries such as herniated disc and nerve root impingement are best seen with advanced imaging modalities, such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and myelography.

 Ayurveda Management:

  Pain, tingling sensation, numbness, stiffness of the spine are major symptoms of Lumbar spondylosis which is predominantly due to vitiated Vatha dosha. According to Ayurveda, Lumbar Spondylosis can be correlated to Kati Vata (one of the Sandhigata Vata) and back pain to Kati shula or Prishta shula or Kati graha or Trika shula or Trika graha. Treatment in Ayurveda for Lumbar spondylosis is to bring the vitiated ‘Vata dosha‘ back to the state of equilibrium and thereby to the state of health. The treatment modalities for treating this condition include Panchakarma & Rejuvenation therapies, internal medications, diet and life style changes. Therapies like Dhanyamladhara, Abhyanga swedam, Elakizhi, Sarvangadhara, Vasti, kati vasti, Navarakizhi are commonly done according to the severity of illness.

 ராமநாதபுரம் மாவட்டத்தில் ஓர் தீவாக அமைந்துள்ள ராமேஸ்வரத்தில். 2000 ஆண்டுகள் பழமைவாய்ந்த சிவன் கோவில் உள்ளது. இங்குள்ள சிவபெருமானுக்கு ராமநாதர் என்ற பெயரில் அருள் பாலிக்கிறார் இவரை வணங்கி தீர்த்தில் நீராடினால் தீராதபாவம் தீரும் என்பது பக்தர்களின் நம்பிக்கை பன்னிரு ஜோதிர்லிங்கத் இத்திருத்தலம் தலங்களுள் இதுவும் ஒன்றாகும். இத்தலத்தை இந்தியக் துணைக் கண்டத்தில் இருந்து பிரிப்பது பாம்பன் கால்வாய் ஆகும்.

சேது :

  இத்திருத்தலம் ராமேஸ்வரம் என்றும் சேது என்றும் வழங்கப் பெறுகின்றது. இந்தியாவிலேயே மிகப்பெரிய பிரகாரத்தைக் கொண்ட திருக்கோவிலாக ராமலிங்கர் திருக்கோவில் விளங்குகிறது.

ஆஞ்சநேயனால் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட லிங்கம் :

 மிகப்பெரிய கோபுரத்தையும் நான்கு பெரிய பிரகாரங்களையும் கொண்டு விளங்கும் இத்திருக்கோவிலின் வெளிப்பிரகாரத்தில் நடராஜர் திருக்காட்சி தந்தருளுகிறார். திருக்கோவிலின் உட்பிரகாரத்தில் ராமலிங்கர் சன்னிதி அமைந்துள்ளது. இவரை ராமநாதர் என்றும் ராமேஸ்வரர் என்றும் போற்றுகின்றனர். ஆஞ்சநேயனால் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட லிங்கம் ராமலிங்கர் சன்னிதிக்கு வடபுறத்தில் பிரதிஷ்டை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. இவரைக் காசிவிஸ்வநாதர் என்றழைப்பர். முதலில் இவருக்குத்தான் வழிபாடு நடைபெறுகிறது. உட்பிரகாரத்திலுள்ள நவசக்தி மண்டபத்தில் அம்பாள் மலைவளர் காதலியாக அருள்புரிந்து வருகிறார். அம்பாளை பர்வதவர்த்தினி என்றும் அழைப்பார். இத்திருக்கோவிலின் நந்தி பன்னிரெண்டு அடி நீளமும், ஒன்பதடி உயரமும் கொண்டதாய் விளங்குகிறது. இது சுதை வடிவில் அமைக்கப்பட்டதாகும்.

22 தீர்த்தங்கள் :

 திருக்கோவிலின் கிழக்குக் கோபுர வாயிலில் அனுமன் சன்னிதி அமைந்துள்ளது. இத்தலத்தில் மொத்தம் 22 தீர்த்தங்கள் உள்ளன. இவற்றுள் 14 தீர்த்தங்கள் திருக்கோவிலின் உள்ளேயே உள்ளன. ராம, இலக்குவ, அனும, சுக்ரீவ, பஞ்ச பாண்டவ தீர்த்தங்கள், அக்னி தீர்த்தம், கோடி தீர்த்தம் ஆகியவை சிறப்பு வாய்ந்தவை ஆகும். இங்குள்ள அக்னி தீர்த்தம் வரலாற்றுச் சிறப்புடையதாகும். ராமபிரான் இலங்கையிலிருந்து சீதையை மீட்டு வந்து அவளது பரிசுத்தத் தன்மையை உலகோருக்கு உணர்த்த அக்னிதேவனை அழைத்து அக்னியை வளர்த்தார்.அந்த அக்னியில் சீதையைப் பிரவேசிக்கச் செய்தார். கற்புக்கரசியான சீதாப்பிராட்டியை சோதித்த பாவம் நீங்கிட அக்னிதேவன் கடலில் நீராடி சீதையை வழிபட்டான். ராமபிரான் அக்னிதேவனிடம் ‘நீ நீராடிய இவ்விடம் அக்னி தீர்த்தம் என வழங்கப்பெறும்.  இத்தீர்த்தத்தில் நீராடியோர் அனைவரும் தங்களின் பாவங்கள் நீங்கிடப் பெறுவர்’ என்று கூறினாராம். திருக்கோவிலுக்குக் கிழக்கே உள்ள கடலில் அக்னி தீர்த்தமும் திருக்கோவிலினுள் கோடி தீர்த்தமும் உள்ளன. ராமன் தன் தனுசுவை ஊன்றி உண்டாக்கிய தீர்த்தம் இதுவாகும்.

திருவிழாக்கள் :

 திருவிழாக்கள் நடந்தாலும் மாசி மாதத்தில் நடைபெறும் பிரம்மோற்சவமும், ஆடிமாதத்தில் நடைபெறும் அம்மன் உற்சவமும் சிறப்பானவையாகும். அச்சமயம் அம்மன் தபசும், அம்மன் திருக்கல்யாண வைபவமும் நடைபெறும்.

 பதினெட்டு சித்தர்கள்ளே ஒருவர், நம் முன்னோர்களில் ஒருவராக இருக்க கூடும். இயல்பாக , உங்களுக்கு யார் மேல் ஈடுபாடு வருகிறது என்று பாருங்கள். இவர்தான் நீங்கள் சந்திக்கவிருக்கிற சித்தர். தியானத்தில் ஒரு நிலையை அடைந்த பிறகு, உங்களுக்கு இது தெரிய வரும். ஞானக் கோவை என்னும் சித்தர்கள் பாடலைப் படித்தால், உங்களுக்கு யாரேனும் ஒரு சித்தர் மேல் ஈடுபாடு வரும். அவர்தான் , உங்கள் ஜென்ம விமோச்சகர்  பதினெட்டு வயதுக்கு மேல் ஆனவர்கள் மட்டும், இந்த பயிற்சியை செய்யவும்.

 ஒரு திருவிளக்கை எட்டடி தூரத்தில் வைக்க வேண்டும். தாமரை நூல் திரியிட்டு , பசு நெய் ஊற்றி விளக்கேற்றுங்கள். ஒரு சிறிய காசி செம்பில், சுத்தமான தண்ணீர் எடுத்து விளக்கு முன் வைக்கவும். ஆசனப் பலகை அல்லது , தரையில் – மஞ்சள் துணி விரிப்பு விரித்து , விளக்கு ஒளி எட்டு அடி தூரத்தில் – உங்கள் புருவ மத்திக்கு நேர் கோட்டில் இருக்கும்படி, அமர்ந்து கொள்ளுங்கள். நீங்கள் சந்திக்க விரும்பும் சித்தர் பெயரை , மனதுக்குள் நினைத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். பின்பு,

ஓம் சிங் ரங் அங் சிங்

 – என்ற மந்திரத்தை திருவிளக்கைப் பார்த்தபடி , மனதுக்குள் ஜெபித்து வாருங்கள்.

 நீங்கள் ஆரம்பிக்கும் தினம், அமாவாசை தினமாக இருக்கட்டும். தினமும் இடைவிடாமல் – தொண்ணூறு நாட்களுக்கு ஜெபிக்கவேண்டும். நீங்கள் பயிற்சி மேற்கொள்ளவேண்டிய நேரம் – இரவு எட்டிலிருந்து , ஒன்பது மணி வரை. இந்த ஒரு மணி நேரத்தில் உங்களால் எவ்வளவு ஜெபிக்க முடியுமோ, ஜெபிக்கவும். எண்ணிக்கை முக்கியமில்லை.

 ஜெபம் முடிந்த பிறகு, இரவு உணவாக படையல் செய்த பழங்களை உண்டு , பின் காசி செம்பிலுள்ள நீரை அருந்தவும். இரவு உணவாக பால் சாதம் சாப்பிடலாம். பயிற்சி மேற்கொள்ளும் மொத்த நாட்களில் – உப்பு ,புளி , காரம் குறைத்துக் கொள்வது நல்லது. இதனால் , உங்களுக்குமனபலம் கூடும்.
ஒரு சாதாரண செடி வளர்வதே – அந்த இடத்தின், சூழல் , மண் வளம் என்று வேறுபடும்போது , நம் அனுபவமும் இந்த பயிற்சியில் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் வேறுபடலாம். இந்த பயிற்சிக்கு நம் உடல் அமைப்பு, கிரக அமைப்பு எல்லாம் நமக்கு ஒத்துழைக்க வேண்டும். விடா முயற்சியுடன், முயன்றால் , ஒரு தெய்வீக அனுபவம் கிட்டும்…

 கண்ணனின் பிறந்த நாள் எப்படி அஷ்டமியில்? அது குறித்து நெகிழவைக்கும் ஒரு சம்பவம் உண்டு. அஷ்டமி, நவமி என்று இரு திதித் தேவதைகள் இருவருக்கும் மிகுந்த கவலை தங்களை யாருமே நற்காரியங்களுக்காகக் கண்டுகொள்வதில்லை என்பது அவர்களது மனக்குறை. இதை யாரிடம் சொல்லி மீட்சிபெறலாம் என்று சிந்தித்து ஈற்றில் மற்றவர் குறை போக்கும் மஹாவிஷ்ணுவிடமே சரணடைந்தனர். “மஹா பிரபோ எங்கள் நிலையை எண்ணிப் பாருங்கள் சுவாமி. அஷ்டமியாகிய என்னையும் நவமியாகிய இவளையும் யாருமே நன்நாளாகக் கண்டுகொள்வதில்லை, சுபகாரியங்களில் ஒதுக்கி வைத்து விடுகிறார்கள். இந்த வேதனையை எங்களால் தாங்க முடியவில்லை. இத்துன்பம் போக்கவல்லவர் நீங்களல்லவோ” என்றிறைஞ்சி நின்றனர். மஹா விஷ்ணுவும் “கவலை வேண்டாம் உங்கள் குறைதீர வழி செய்தருள்வேன்” என்றாராம். அதன்படி ஒரு நவமித் திதியிலே ராமவதாரத்தையும் அட்டமித் திதியிலே கிருஷ்ணாவதாரத்தையும் மேற்கொண்டு பரமாத்மா இவ்வுலகம் உய்ய வழி செய்தாராம்.

 அறியாமை மேலீட்டினால் அஷ்டமி, நவமித் திதிகளை ஒதுக்கி வைத்த மக்கள் அத்தினங்களிலே கோகிலாஷ்டமியையும் இராம நவமியையும் மிகக் கோலாகலமாகக் கொண்டாட மட்டும் தவறுவதேயில்லை. இறைவன் முன்னே எல்லோரும் சமமே. இங்கு உயர்வு தாழ்வுக்கு இடமேயில்லையென்ற உயர்ந்த தத்துவத்தை இந் நிகழ்வுகள் சொல்லாமல் சொல்கின்றனவல்லவோ. விஷ்ணு பரமாத்மா பூமித்தாய்க்கு வரமளிக்க நினைத்தபடி ஆவணித் திங்கள் ரோகினி நட்சத்திரத்து அஷ் டமித் திதியில் அவதாரமானார்… அந்தப் புண்ணிய தினமே கோகுலாஷ்டமி என்றும், ஜன்மாஷ் டமி, கிருஷ்ண ஜெயந்தி என்றும் நாம் கொண்டாடி மகிழ்கின்றோம். வைணவ சம்பிரதாயத்தினர் இத்திருநாளை கண்ணன் பிறந்த ரோகிணி நட்சத்திர நன்நாளை ஸ்ரீஜெயந்தி என்று கொண்டாடுவர். மஹா விஷ்ணுமூர்த்தி யின் அவதாரங்களுள்ளே… கிருஷ்ணாவதாரம் மிகச் சிறந்த அவதாரமாகும்.

பரித்ராணாய சாதூனாம் விநாசாய சதுஷ்க்ருதாம்
தர்ம சம்ஸ்தாபனார்த்தாய சம்பவாமி யுகே யுகே

பொருள் :
தர்மத்தை நிலைநாட்டவும், அதர்மத்தை அழிக்கவும், தர்ம வழி நடக்கும் எளியோரைக் காக்கவும் யுகந்தோறும் அவதரிக்கிறேன்
மகாவிஷ்ணுவின் தசாவதாரங்களில் மிக மிக முக்கியமான அவதாரம் கிருஷ்ணாவதாரம். மக்கள் சரியாக புரிந்துகொள்ளத் தவறிய அவதாரமும் அது தான். கிருஷ்ணரின் பாத்திரத்தை பற்றி எழுதுவது சாதாரண விஷயம் அல்ல. மிக மிக கடினமான ஒரு பணியும் கூட. அவருடைய அவதாரத்தின் உண்மையான நோக்கத்திற்கும் நமது புரிதலுக்கும் உள்ள வித்தியாசம் மலைக்கும் மடுவுக்கும் உள்ள வித்தியாசத்தை போன்றது. கேட்டதை வைத்து படித்ததை வைத்து நாமாகவே கற்பனை செய்தவை தான் அதிகம்.

 ஒரு சாதாரண சன்னியாசியின் வாழ்க்கையே இங்கே பல போராட்டங்களுக்கு உரியது என்றால் கடவுளின் வாழ்க்கை இங்கே எப்படி இருந்திருக்கும்? கண்ணன் தன் பால்ய வயதில் செய்த குறும்புகள், இளவயதில் நடத்திய விளையாட்டுக்கள், போர்முனையில் செய்த தந்திரங்கள் இவை தான் அனைவருக்கும் தெரியும். ஆனால் அவரின் பொறுமையும் அவர் பட்ட துன்பமும் யாருக்கும் தெரியாது. கபடர்களுக்கும் சூழ்ச்சியாளர்களுக்கும் மத்தியில் அவதரிக்க வேண்டிய நிலை என்பதால், ஸ்ரீவிஷ்ணு தனது மாயா சக்தியால் இந்த அவதாரத்தையே ஒரு நாடகமாக நடத்திக் காட்டினார்.

ஜெய் கிருஷ்ணா … ஓம் சாய் ராம் …..

  முற்காலத்தில் ஊரில் கோயில் கோபுரத்தை விட உயரமாக எந்தக் கட்டிடமும் இருக்கக் கூடாது என்று ஒரு எழுதாத சட்டம் இருந்தது. என்ன காரணம்?…

 கோயில்களையும் உயரமான கோபுரங்களையும் அதன் மேல் இருக்கும் கலசங்களையும் பார்த்திருப்பீர்கள். அதன் பின் ஒளிந்திருக்கும் ஆன்மிக உண்மை தெரியவில்லை. ஆனால் அதன் பின் எவ்வளவு பெரிய அறிவியல் ஒளிந்திருக்கிறது என இப்போதுதான் தெரிகிறது. கோபுரத்தின் உச்சியில் தங்கம், வெள்ளி செம்பு(அ) ஐம்பொன்னால் செய்யப்பட்ட கலசங்கள் இருக்கும். இக் கலசங்களிலும் அதில் கொட்டப்படும் தானியங்களும், உலோகங்களும் மின் காந்த அலைகளை ஈர்க்கும் சக்தியை கலசங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கின்றன. நெல், உப்பு, கேழ்வரகு, தினை, வரகு, சோளம், மக்கா சோளம், சலமை, எள் ஆகியவற்றைக் கொட்டினார்கள். குறிப்பாக வரகு தானியத்தை அதிகமாகக் கொட்டினார்கள். காரணத்தைத் தேடிப் பார்த்தால் ஆச்சர்யமாக இருக்கிறது. வரகு மின்னலைத் தாங்கும் அதிக ஆற்றலைப் பெற்றிருப்பது என இப்போதைய அறிவியல் கூறுகிறது.

 இவ்வளவுதானா? இல்லை, பன்னிரெண்டு வருடங்களுக்கு ஒரு முறை குட முழுக்கு விழா என்ற பெயரில் கலசங்களில் இருக்கும் பழைய தானியங்கள் நீக்கப்பட்டு புதிய தானியங்கள் நிரப்பப்படுகிறது. அதை இன்றைக்கு சம்பிரதாயமாகவே மட்டும் கடைபிடிக்கிறார்கள். காரணத்தைத் தேடினால், அந்த தானியங்களுக்குப் பன்னிரெண்டு வருடங்களுக்குத்தான் அந்த சக்தி இருக்கிறது. அதன் பின் அது செயல் இழந்து விடுகிறது!! இதை எப்படி அப்போது அறிந்திருந்தார்கள்? ஆச்சர்யம்தான்.

 அவ்வளவுதானா அதுவும் இல்லை. இன்றைக்குப் பெய்வதைப் போன்று மூன்று நாட்களா மழை பெய்தது அன்று? தொடர்ந்து மூன்று மாதங்கள் பெய்தது. ஒரு வேளை தானியங்கள் அனைத்தும் நீரில் மூழ்கி அழிந்து போனால், மீண்டும் எதை வைத்துப் பயிர் செய்வது? இவ்வளவு உயரமான கோபுரத்தை நீர் சூழ வாய்ப்பில்லை. இதையே மீண்டும் எடுத்து விதைக்கலாமே! ஒரு இடத்தில் எது மிக உயரமான இடத்தில் அமைந்த இடி தாங்கியோ அதுதான் முதலில் எர்த் ஆகும். மேலும் அது எத்தனை பேரைக் காப்பாற்றும் என்பது அதன் உயரத்தைப் பொறுத்தது. அடிப்படையில் கலசங்கள் இடிதாங்கிகள். உதாரணமாக கோபுரத்தின் உயரம் ஐம்பது மீட்டர் என்றால் நூறு மீட்டர் விட்டம் வரைக்கும் பரப்பில் எத்தனை பேர் இருந்தாலும் அவர்கள் இடி தாங்காமல் காக்கப்படுவார்கள். அதாவது சுமார் 75008 மீட்டர் பரப்பளவிலிருக்கும் மனிதர்கள் காப்பாற்றப்படுவார்கள்! சில கோயில்களுக்கு நான்கு வாயில்கள் உள்ளன. அது நாலாபுறமும் 75000 சதுர மீட்டர் பரப்பளவைக் காத்து நிற்கிறது! இது ஒரு தோராயமான கணக்கு தான். இதைவிட உயரமான கோபுரங்கள் இதை விட அதிகமான பணிகளை சத்தமில்லாமல் செய்து வருகின்றன.

கோயில் இல்லா ஊரில் குடியிருக்க வேண்டாம் என்ற பழமொழி நினைவுக்கு வருகிறது.

 பல ஆண்டுகள் முன்னால் மாலிக்கபூர் மதுரையை நோக்கிப் படையெடுத்தான்.வரும் வழியெங்கும் இரத்தம், கொலை, கொள்ளை, பலாத்காரம், பெண்களை சிறைப்படுத்துதல். நிறுத்தாமல் தொடர்ந்து நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தது. கோவில்களை இடித்தான். முடியாதவற்றில் மூர்த்தியை மட்டுமாவது இடிப்பான். பல கோவில்களில் மூர்த்தியை எப்படியாவது காப்பாற்றிவிடுவார்கள் நம் மக்கள்.

இப்படியாக துவங்கியதுதான் கல்திரை:

  கற்பகிரஹத்திர்க்கு முன்னால் ஒரு சுவரை எழுப்பி அதற்கு முன் ஒரு மூர்த்தியை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்துவிடுவார்கள். ஆக்கிரமிப்பாளன் வருவான். இதுதான் மூர்த்தி என்று நினைத்து இடிப்பான். இதை கேள்விப்பட்டனர் மதுரை மீனாக்ஷி அம்மன் கோவிலை சேர்ந்த 5 சிவாச்சாரியார்கள், எப்படியாவது நமது கோவிலை காப்பாற்ற வேண்டும், சுவாமி மீது ஒரு மிலேச்சன் கை வைக்க விடக்கூடாது என்று தங்களுக்குள் சபதம் செய்து கொண்டார்கள். தாம் செய்யும் காரியத்தை நேரம் வரும்வரை யாருக்கும் சொல்வதில்லை என்று சத்தியம் செய்தார்கள். சுவாமிக்கு அபிஷேகமெல்லாம் செய்து முடித்து, கண்ணில் நீருடன், மீண்டும் உன்னை எப்போது காண்போம் சர்வேசா, சுந்தரேசா என்று கதறியபடியே கல் திரை எழுப்பினார்கள். வெளியே மூர்த்தியை பிரதிஷ்டை செய்தார்கள். அசலைப்போலவே நகை, விளக்கு, மாலை, எல்லாம் ஏற்பாடு செய்தார்கள்.

 வந்தான் மாலிக்கபூர். ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பேரை கொன்றான். பல ஆயிரம் பேரை மதம் மாற்றினான். மாட்டு கறியை வாயில் திணித்தான். விக்ரஹத்தை இடித்தான். செல்வங்களை எல்லாம் கொள்ளை கொண்டு போனான். அதன் பின் 48 ஆண்டுகள் கோவிலில் பூஜை இல்லை. தெரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள் நண்பர்களே, மதுரை மீனாக்ஷி அம்மன் கோவிலில் 48 ஆண்டுகள் பூஜை கிடையாது. கோவிலே பாழாக இருந்தது. அதன் பின் விஜயநகர சாம்ராஜ்யம் துவங்கியது. முகலாயர்களை துவம்சம் செய்தார்கள். எல்லா கோவில்களையும் புனருத்தாரணம் செய்தார்கள். அப்போது மதுரை மீனாக்ஷி அம்மன் கோவிலிலும் வேலையை ஆரம்பித்தார்கள். அங்கே இடிந்து கிடந்தது சிவலிங்கம். அம்பாளை காணோம். சரி வேறு ஒரு சிலையை செய்ய சொல்லி உத்தரவு கொடுப்போம் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

 அப்போது தள்ளாத வயதான ஒரு சிவாச்சாரியார் வந்தார். புது விக்ரஹமெல்லாம் வேண்டாம். சுவாமி பத்திரமாக இருக்கிறார் என்றார். என்ன சொல்கிறீர்கள். இதோ இடித்துவிட்டு போயிருக்கிறார்களே என்றனர். இல்லை, இல்லை, இது மூல விக்ரஹமில்லை என்று சொல்லி நடந்ததை சொன்னார். சத்தியம் செய்த 5 பேரில் 4 பேர் இறந்து விட்டார்கள். காலம் வரும்வரை எப்படியாவது நான் இதை சொல்லிவிட்டு சாக வேண்டும் என்று உயிரை கையில் பிடித்துகொண்டு இருக்கிறேன் என்று சொல்லி தாளாத துக்கத்துடனும் மனதில் இருந்த பாரம் இறங்கியதில், நல்லது நடக்கிறதே என்று சந்தோஷத்துடனும் அழுதுகொண்டே சொன்னார். உடனடியாக அந்த மூர்த்தி இருந்த இடத்தின் பின்னே உள்ள சுவற்றை இடிக்க ஆரம்பித்தார்கள். முழுவதும் இடித்து உள்ளே சென்று பார்த்தால்…..

 உள்ளே 48 ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து எந்த பூஜையும் இல்லாமல், விளக்கு எரிந்து கொண்டிருந்தது. சுவாமியின் மீது சாற்றிய சந்தன கலபம் ஈரமாக இருந்தது. பூக்கள் வாடாமல் இருந்தன. கற்பகிரஹத்தில் உள்ளே இருந்து வரும் அந்த வாசம் அப்படியே இருந்தது!!!! 48 ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து எந்த பூஜையும் இல்லாத நிலையில் உள்ளே அனைத்தும் மூடும்போது இருந்தபடியே இருந்தது. திளைத்தனர் பக்தியில் அனைவரும். அனைத்து சோக நிழல்களும் பறந்தன. ஊரே திருவிழா கோலம் பூண்டது இந்த அதிசயத்தை காண. மீதும் புது பொலிவுடன் கோவில் திறக்கப்பட்டது. இன்றும் அந்த கோவிலுக்கு போனால் உடைக்கப்பட்ட சிவலிங்கம் ஒரு ஓரமாக துர்க்கை அம்மன் எதிரில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த விவரம் ஒரு பலகையில் எழுதிவைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

 நாகப்பட்டினம் மாவட்டம் திருவலிவலம் என்ற இடத்தில் 2000 ஆண்டுகள் பழமையான சிவன் கோவில் உள்ளது. சிவபெருமான் மனதுணைநாதர் அம்பாள் மழையொன்கன்னி உடன் அருள் பளிக்கிறார். இவரை தரிசனம் செய்தால் இதயம் சமந்தப்பட்ட நோய், மனகலகம் உள்ளவர்கள் வழிபட்டால் பலன் கிடைக்கும் என்பது பக்தர்களின் தீராத நம்பிக்கை. இது சிவனின் தேவரபாடல் பெற்ற 274 சிவாலயங்களில் இது 184 வது தேவரதளம் ஆகும்

கரிக்குருவியாக பிறவி எடுக்க நேரிட்டது:

 ஒழுக்கத்தில் சிறந்த ஒருவன் இருந்தான். அவன் முன்வினைப் பயன் காரணமாக சில பாவங்களைச் செய்தான். அதனால் அவன் அடுத்தப் பிறவியில் கரிக்குருவியாக பிறவி எடுக்க நேரிட்டது. மிகச் சிறியதாக இருந்த அந்தப் பறவையை, பெரிய பறவைகள் ஒன்றுசேர்ந்து தாக்கியதால் ரத்தம் வழிந்தது. காயம் அடைந்த அந்தக் குருவி, அங்கிருந்து நெடுதூரம் பறந்து ஒரு மரத்தில் போய் அமர்ந்தது. அந்த மரத்தின் கீழ் சிவனடியார் ஒருவர் அமர்ந்திருந்தார். அவர் தன் சீடர்கள் சிலருக்கு ஞான உபதேசம் செய்து கொண்டிருந்தார்.

சிவனடியாரின் உபதேசம்:

 அந்த சிவனடியாரின் உபதேசங்களை கரிக்குருவியும் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தது. சிவனடியார் தன் சீடர்களிடம், சிவ தலங்களில் சிறந்தது மதுரை திருத் தலம். தீர்த்தங்களில் சிறந்தது, அந்த மதுரையம்பதியில் இருக்கும் பொற்றாமரைக் குளம். மூர்த்திகளில் சிறந்தவர் மதுரை சொக்கநாதர். மதுரைக்கு சமமான தலம் இந்த உலகத்தில் வேறு இல்லை. எனவே வாழ்நாளில் ஒரு முறையேனும் மதுரை திருத்தலம் சென்று பொற்றாமரைக் குளத்தில் நீராடி, சொக்கநாத பெருமானை வழிபட்டு வர வேண்டும். அங்குள்ள சோம சுந்தரக் கடவுள் தன்னை வழிபடுபவர்களுக்கு, வேண்டும் வரங்களைக் கொடுத்து அருள்வார்’ என்றுகூறினார்.

பொற்றாமரைக் குளத்தில் மூழ்கியது:

  சிவனடியாரின் உபதேசத்தைக் கேட்ட கரிக்குருவி, தானும் மதுரைக்கு சென்று இறைவனை தரிசிக்க முடிவு செய்தது. அதன்படி அந்தக் கரிக்குருவி, மதுரையை அடைந்து சொக்கநாதர் கோவிலை வலம் வந்து, பொற்றாமரைக் குளத்தில் மூழ்கியது. பின்னர் அங்குள்ள இறைவனை மனமுருக வழிபட்டது. மூன்று நாட்கள் இவ்வாறு தொடர்ந்து வழிபட்டு வந்தது, அந்தக் குருவி. அதன் வழிபாட்டைக் கண்டு சொக்கநாதர் மனமிளகினார். கரிக் குருவியின் முன்பாகத் தோன்றி அதற்கு, சில மந்திரங்களை உபதேசம் செய்தார். அதனால் கரிக்குருவி சிற்றறிவு நீங்கி, பேரறிவு பெற்றது. கேலி செய்யும் நிலையில் உள்ளேன் ஞானம் பெற்ற கரிக்குருவி, ‘இறைவா! உங்களது கருணையால் நான் ஞானம் பெற்றவனானேன். இருந்தாலும் எனக்கு ஒரு குறை உள்ளது. மிகச் சிறிய பறவையான நான், மற்ற பெரிய பறவைகளால் துன்புறுத்தப்படுகிறேன். பார்ப்பவர்கள் கேலி செய்யும் நிலையில் உள்ளேன்’ என்று முறையிட்டது.

திருவலிவலம்:

  அதற்கு சிவபெருமான், ‘எல்லாப் பறவைகளையும் விட நீ வலிமையுடையவனாக மாறுவாய்’ என்று அருளினார். ஆனால் அந்தக் கரிக்குருவி, ‘சுவாமி! எனக்கு மட்டுமின்றி, எனது மரபில் உள்ள அனைவரும் வலிமையுடன் இருக்கும் வரம் தந்தருள வேண்டும்’ என்று கேட்டது. இறைவனும் அப்படியே அருளினார். இதனால் அந்தக் கரிக்குருவி ‘வலியான்’ என்ற பெயரையும் பெற்றது. வரம் பெற்றகுருவி திருவலிவலம் திருத்தலத்திற்கு வந்து மனத்துணை நாதரை வழிபட்டு முக்தி அடைந்தது. எனவே இந்த தலத்திற்கு ‘திருவலிவலம்’ என்ற பெயர் ஏற்பட்டதாக தல புராணம்தெரிவிக்கிறது.

மாடக்கோவில்:

 ஆலயத்தின் இரண்டாவது பிரகாரம் மூன்று நிலை ராஜகோபுரத்துடன் நம்மை வரவேற்கிறது. கோச்செங்கண் சோழனால் கட்டப்பட்ட இந்த ஆலயம், ‘மாடக்கோவில்’ வகையைச் சேர்ந்தது. பதினாறு படிகள் ஏறிச் சென்று பார்த்தால் மூன்று நிலை விமானத்தின் உள்ளே கருவறையில், சிவலிங்க ரூபமாக மூலவர் மனத்துணை நாதர் வீற்றிருந்து அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். இவரை இதயக்கமலேஸ்வரர் என்றும் அழைக்கிறார்கள். ‘மனத்துணையே என்றன் வாழ்முதலே’ என்று மாணிக்கவாசகர் புகழ்கிறார். ‘அன்பருக்கு இன்னருள் செய்துய்ய வலிவலத்துச் சொன்முடியே’ என்கிறார் ராமலிங்க வள்ளலார். அப்பரோ தனது பதிகத்தில் ‘மனத்துளானே’ என்று கூறுகிறார். சுந்தரரும், ‘நல்லுடையார் மனத் தெய்ப்பினில் வைப்பை நானூறு குறைஅளித் தருள் புரிவானை’ என்று இத்தல இறைவனை புகழ்ந்துரைக்கிறார். அனைத்தையும் இறைவன் திருவடியில் சமர்ப்பித்து ‘நீயே துணை’ என்று நம்பி வந்தால், உடலும் உள்ளமும் தெளிவாகி நோய்கள் விலகுகின்றன. அந்தப் பெரும்பேற்றைத் தருபவர் தான் இத்தல நாயகர் மனத்துணை நாதர். மனதில் ஏற்படும் விரக்தி, சோர்வு ஆகியவற்றிக்கும் இத்தலத்தில் தீர்வு கிடைக்கின்றன.

‘பிடியதன் உருஉமை கொளமிகு கரியது
வடிகொடு தனதடி வழிபடும் அவரிடர்
கடிகண பதிவர அருளினன் மிகுகொடை
வடிவினர் பயில்வலி வலம்உறை இறையே’

என்று இந்தத் திருக்கோவில் நிருதி மூலையில் எழுந்தருளியுள்ள வலம்புரி விநாயகருக்கு பாமாலை சூட்டுகிறார் திருஞானசம்பந்தர். தேவாரப் பண்ணிசைப்போர் புகழ்பெற்ற இத்திருப்பதிகத்தைப் பாடியே, மற்ற பண்களை இசைக்கிறார்கள் என்றால் இத்தலமும் அதில் எழுந்துள்ள விநாயகரும் எத்தகைய சிறப்புடையது என்பதை நாம் அறிந்து கொள்ள முடியும். அடியவர்களின் துயர் களைய சிவசக்தியால் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட கண நாதர் இவர்.
இத்திருக்கோவிலில் எழுந்தருளியுள்ள முருகப் பெருமானை அருணகிரிநாதர் தனது திருப்புகழில், ‘அமரர்கள் மதித்த சேவக வலிவலம் நகருறை பெருமானே’ என்று போற்றுகிறார். இவ்வளவு சிறப்பு வாய்ந்த வலிவலத்தில் அம்பிகை ‘மழையொண்கண்ணி’ என்ற பெயரில், தெற்கு நோக்கிய தனிச் சன்னிதியில் வீற்றிருந்து அருள் பாலிக்கிறார். அம்பிகை சன்னிதிக்கு எதிரில் உள்ள நந்தவனத்தில் தலவிருட்சமான புன்னை மரம் காற்றில் அசைந்து இனிய மணம் பரப்புகிறது.

 அமைவிடம்:

  திருவாரூரில் இருந்து திருத்துறைப்பூண்டி செல்லும் வழித்தடத்தில் கச்சனம் உள்ளது. சுமார் 5 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் அமைந் திருக்கிறது திருவலிவலம். திருநெல்லிக்கா ரெயில் நிலையத்தில் இருந்து 8 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவிலும், நாகப்பட்டினத்தில் இருந்து 28 கிலோமீட்டர் தூரத்திலும்  உள்ளது.
